A movie night on hotel Wi-Fi can expose more than your viewing habits. The same is true when you stream from an airport, coffee shop, shared apartment network, or mobile hotspot. When you use a VPN for safer streaming, you add encrypted protection between your device and the internet, helping keep your IP address and connection activity less exposed to the network around you.

That does not make you invisible to every service or erase every privacy risk.
